What are Blogs

The term blog is basically combined from web-log. It can be defined as a personal electronic journal maintained by the user.

People use blogs as per their interest, which can vary from person to person. It can be used to share information, knowledge personal thoughts or opinions, poems, photos, videos etc. The blog is made to be interactive through the comment option. The viewer can freely interact with the owner leaving a message on it. It has almost all the features of a website however mostly can be availed for free of cost unlike a website.

As per the records of Technorati (search engine) above 57 million blogs were tracked in November 2006.

Initially, users would post “how-to-do” on their blogs this helped in generating more interests towards blogging.

To differentiate between the various types of blogs as per their contents they are categorized as below:

  1. Vblog - Blog with videos.
  2. Link log – Blog containing links to other sites.
  3. Sketchblog – This has compilation of sketches.
  4. Photoblog – Blog that is loaded with photos.
  5. Tumble logs – One that has more than one type of blog.
  6. Phlog - Blog that is hosted on Gopher Protocol, such blogs are very few.

Blogs with a theme based on politics, travel, fashion, law etc is popularly known as blawgs. Another form of Blog is Splog that’s created for spamming and this is an undesirable blog.

Slog is another form of blog that in appearance is like a website but has all blogging features. It is mostly availed for professional use unlike other blogs that are used to display personal activity or talent.

Blog is further classified as per the device used to build it. It’s a moblog if the blog is programmed by any mobile tool like mobile phone or PDA.

The features of blog are getting updated regularly leaving the user with a better experience at some interval.
